ecu unlocking

   this is not saxo related but i thought its worth a try.
   
   my dad broke down today in his ford focus and had to get towed home by the rac and the rac bloke says its the immobiliser (not sure how you spell it) as the immobiliser and alarm light keeps flashing when the key is in the ignition and turned to start the car but nothing happens
   
   will a unlocked ecu sort this problem out?
   
   who can unlock ecus?, can you do it for any car? and how much will it cost?
   its a 03 plate if that helps.
   
   any help would be much appricated as he needs it sorting asap and i dont realy want him to be borrowing my vts.

   i know there's a procedure on rovers, might work on yours:
   
   put the key in, switch on just before the start position. Press the unlock button on the key 3 or 5 times, see if it works.
   
   Otherwise, I'm pretty sure there would be a restart procedure in the car's manual

   i tried that and had no luck. ill have a flick through the owners manual and see if theres anything in there.
   
   ive disconnected the battery to see if the ecu will reset its self. ill find out shortly if it works.

   its a common problem with the focus i work in a ford dealership and we see it atleast once a week mostly the same age cars 2002 - 2004. its the chip in the key that doesnt respond to the reciver in the ignition module and the key has lost its code if you take the log book and proof of id to a ford dealership they will re-code the chip in the key. we charge 15+vat for it so its not cheap but better than walking.
   
   never heard of a unlocked ecu with a ford tho.....?

   is that it? £15 + vat so £20 max??? will i need to take his car to the garage or just id, the log book and keycode card thing???

   everything including the car i cant promace you that it will cost that much as we are a franchise so our prices vary from the ford main dealers.
