Big problem with new car, but still want the engine what do i do?

    Problem number 1

Ok most of you know iv just brought beaniemoo's car for £2500
well looks are desiving as i discoverd today peeling back the carpet and there is a large hole coverd by maskingtape to hide a huge rusted hole. i could fit my arm down it and touch my wheel. also all along the bottem boot line it has rusted and came away from the floor. was not told of this, only was told about the rust along the chassie leg which looked fine. but more examination at my mates garage revealed some more serious rust. also engine mounts have gone and engine stalls and cannot stay idle

    what do i do?

now i still have my old shell in the garage and by the looks my shell is in much more better condition with no rust at all. but beaniemoo's engine is 1 off aswell as the roof. shall i attempt to convert the hole engine and custom wireing loom into my old shell? also put back my power steering and brake servo so i can flog that awful pedal box. what do you think?

    Now problem number 2
shall i say anything to beaniemoo about this? as in is it worth what i payed for now as the shell is not road worthy and the hole was hidden from view.
but then again the engine has had alot of time and money spent into it. what do i do? ask to get alittle bit of that money back for what its worth. or dont say anything. i just duno can anyone help?

    I'd repair the shell IMO
  3. #3
why ur spare shell sitting there clean it up good and proper and swap all over
  4. #4
Well your saying shall i say anytng to beaniemoo...when he could potentailly read this thread!

Why cant you cut from the odl shell, and weld into the new car?
I will admit, its a beauty of a car, other than the problems you are experiencing now! Why not try to keep it and just improve on the imperfections?

As for the engine, how was it running when you bought ute? And on the drive home?
  5. #5
yeh see what you mean but im a nice hearted guy and ill just bottle it up and not worry about it. and not pestering beanimoo about damanding money back coz still i think is worth it. car ran fine when i got it home and all day today just keeps stalling. ill call him eventuly and asked if he might know the prroblem, ill also mention the huge rust but wont peture him about money back.

the plan im heading now is cleaning up my other shell and convert what ever is on beanimoo's car over to mine. gonna attemt to get the roof cut out and welded on mine and gonna try smooth down my engine bay the same as his. im gonna fit my standerd brake servo back in and my power steering just to defeat that pedal box

id be tryin to get some money back to pay for the repairs. they obviousley knew about the hole when gaffa taped it up and when they sold it to ya.

Gaffa taped a hole up in a car like that!!! He should have told you about that mate, yes the engine is worth a lot of money and the bodywork must have cost a fortune but seriously its not something you would forget to tell the new buyer about. Id repair the rust personally and go ahead with your initial plans.

    +1 to that

Did you look at his thread coz I thinkvthe first couple of pages were about the shell an some massive rust holes in it
You should talk to him maybe you can sort it out
2.5k is alot of money for something you can't even drive
  11. #11
ask for some money back to pay for repairs,
take the bits you need of your other shell
or you might aswell just bought a engine and wheels

dont bite around the bush mate as you was told none of that when you bought it
  12. #12
    link to the car?

WTF!!! up to you mate but id get some money back to go towards the car being repaired as you payed for a CAR not hopes and dreams with an engine and wheels lol

or just take it back and get your money back

the choice is up to you?

I personally think you should get a few hundred back, use your old shell for the car and do the car to how you want it. I know it will be alot more work but hey, lifes a bitch sometimes. Moo's old shell is 6 years older than yours right?

    If I was you;
    - Transfer the Engine and all the bits into your shell
    - Remove the pedal box and go back to standard
    - Moo's old roof was just leather/leatherette vinyl glued on? Could do the same with your current shell

I always thought your car looked sweet, gives you the chance to build your car that you have been through alot with

BTW If the car keeps stalling, make sure the carbs are still attached correctly, may have come loose somehow?

Woah woah woah! Why is it the first I hear about this my name being dragged through the mud on a public forum?!! Surely the logical step would have been to ring, text or pop by and see me you know where I can be found. As for the rust in the rear of the car you were told the car has "MOT faliure rust" in the rear arches, you were shown when you veiwed the car and I have to say at best you seemed disinterested. With regards to the tape in the boot that has been there for over 2 years now and was put there to cover a small crispy bit when gluing the side carpets back in when we did the original repaint. If that has developed more then I certainly wasn't aware.
Rust can always be repaired and the bodyshop my brother works at are extremely good at it so if you find your usual welder isn't capable of doing the job then get in touch in a more conventional manner and we'll arange getting the car down there where it can be repaired to as good as new strength and condition.
With regards to the running issue I've never had a single problem with the car running as it has been built and wired to an extremely high standard as i'm sure most people will agree.

What you do from here on out with regards to which shell you use etc is entirely up to you but if you do have any other concerns about the car you would like to voice please do it directly to me first as threads like this are not a good way to resolve issues they are just far more likely to cause bad feeling than anything else.

fair play mate didnt want to comment on this til i heard your side of the story being the amount you have spent on your car dont think you would have missed a few quids worth of welding intentionally just another classic example of people jumping to conclusions with out knowing the facts!!!

Fair play to Beaniemoo for replying to this and not ignoring it

Fisher, might be worth asking the mods to close this thread and sort it out without Sax-P knowing

yeh thats cool mate was gonna call you today but not had any minutes left to call you about it, not wanting to give you a bad reputation tho and i just fort i would ask for peoples advice as i had no one else to talk to at the time about it. and totaly agree with the engine just seeing if anyone wuda known why at all, it does what a not so good charged battery does, just looses power and dies. and yeh i spoted the rust as you said and didnt look that bad till i pulled the carpet back and relised the arch can be pushed away from the floor and the hole where the maskintape was

think this thread should be now closed and relocated so the guys can now sort amongst themselves rather than the issues been dragged on in the public forum.

    I agree with dust!

Tbh looking at that forsale thread there's no mention of any bad bits every car has I think 2.5k for basically for a car even though fisher found rust it was sold as seen so moo really shouldn't give any money backs
