Important! : jubilee clip used to hold cv boot on?

hi all, just a quick q...

just had a look under my car to investigate the loud horrid clanging noise its had, the driver side cv boot is coming off as its held on with a shit clip, its only coming off on full lock and its obv ran out of grease.

so im wondering if i get a new shaft from the scrapyard can i jubilee clip it at the side closest to the caliper? looks like their may be clearance issues with the jubilee clip and the rubber surrounding a bolt holding the caliper on?

or anyone got any other ideas how to secure one properly? the other side is cable tied either side aswell

    cheers all

Cable ties are fine. Use pliers to pull tight and make sure there is no signs of grease between the mating surfaces else it wont grip.
Failing that use ligerex strapping, which is like a cable tie but made of metal.
I have used jubilee clips in the past and so long as they dont have any clearance issues they are fine

thanks for the replies. well i took my old one off and it was completely shagged, new one from the scrappy for £20, cleaned it up and filled the cv joint with the proper grease. jubilee clipped it, fitted it, no annoying rattly steering, job done

    thanks for the replies people

as mentioned above, providing all mating surfaces are clean, u can use a good quality cable tie (we use 2 each end with the fastening heads offset 180degrees for added security) we have done this for years and never had a problem.

jubilee clips can cause balance issues, we recently had a car come into us with ABS faults... we found a jubilee clip had come off the CV boot and had stuck onto the ABS sensor lol. also the edges of a jubilee clip can cut into the rubber boot.

the metal clips that come with the cv boots can be ok... the "pull type" ones are sh*t, throw them in the bin, but the ones that hook together then you squeeze a tab together really grab hold of them well.
