Brake nightmare

  1. #1
My R reg 1.1 just failed its Mot on handbrake effiency. Took off the rear drums (not easy !) and the shoes are contaminated and the drum lining due to leaking cylinders on both sides. Got all the parts for £50 and started today to get them changed for the retest. Trouble is the brake union pipe to cylinder and the crappy 5mm allen key nuts are like putty and just rounded as they're well seized up. The brake pipe bolt is now all chewed up as tried everything to get it off (mole grips , wd40 , making a notch and hammering the hell out of it) but still cannot get it to budge.

Any suggestions would be appreciated ( thinking maybe new pipe and drilling out allen bolts)

    Cheers

    Blow torch??

I find the only way to get old brakelines off is a lot of heat from a blow torch...

With the brake pipe i shoved a smaller spanner onto it, got some leverage. The cylinder bolts we had to hammer a socket onto!

Cheers for replies , gonna try the socket on the bolts and replace the pipe cos without heat (which I dont have access to) there's no way that the brake pipe bolt is gonna shift.

Finally got the wheel cylinder bolts off. Took me most of the afternoon just to get 4 lousy bolts off. Couldn't fit a socket over the bolts so just made a nic in the bolts and hammered the hell out of it till they cracked (not the best job in the world).

Just a couple of things if anyone can help

1/ Does anyone know the specs for the allen bolt for replacment ?

    and

2/ Whats the best method of disconnecting the brake pipe at the flexi hose union cos there doesn't look like much room to get a spanner in there.

    Cheers for any help !
