Important! : Fitted my racetube & There is a loud rattle. HELP!

    Ok, so my mate who i bought a sportex racetube off, fitted it for me, he isnt a mechanic but he did say he knew how to fit one.

    But basically, since the first couple of days ive had it on, there is a huge, creek/rattle coming from it, any ideas what it could be??

    Can get it sorted but dont know what it is,
    there is a blow coming from it but thats easy to sort out.

    My car is a MK1 VTR

    Get a garage to weld it on, or even put a load of exhaust paste to get over the blowing problem!

    Where am i getting the exhaust paste from?
    What about the loud rattle?

    exhaust paste from any motor factors
    rattle could be from the heat shield also try tightening the bolts up a bit more now its had time to settle

    So tightening up the bolts should stop the rattle, already had a mechanic listen to it and he said its probably the heat shield!

    just tweek the bolts up tighter and it will stabelise it

    ok thanks, where am i putting the exhaust paste? How will i know where the blow is coming from?

    jack the car up start the engine the run your hand over the centre pipeand where the joints are and you should feel where its blowing your mate should have put some on before fitting it

    Blow will be at either end.
    Van beeks in donnington wood, priorslee road garge in st georges or livians at heath hill dawley will all have the paste!

    my money on the creak is the flange.... its where the down pipe meets the centre section, has 2 springs on the join.... if he has fitted your cat bypass tube and tightened it with no play in the springs or its dry as a nuns chuff on the flange, the exhaust wont flex when the engine moves when under stress. so you'll get your creak, squeak and rattle... i'd put my mortgage on it being that. Take the race tube off, wire brush the flange getting rid of rust etc.... Cake the springs and join in copper grease and re join, but dont do the flange springs up too tight...... Or too loose.... Lol

    If so then my money is on the flange end connecting to the back box, the ends of the back box and centre pipe are connected with a PGP clamp and unless the 2 flanges are lined up and clamped properly then the centre pipe can wobble around. Is the back box pretty solid without any wobble?

    when i first got my saxo it had a knocking noise and found out it was knocking on the torsion bar. re-positioned the pipe a bit which gave it some more clearance. worth a look?
