flashing headlights

    Strange problem here maybe somebody could explain to me,

    My car has been sitting quite a while in my driveway not started, and I start it up every few days, jump start from another car, starts fine.

    However when running, the headlights flash on and off for about 30secs, then stop, then flash... why is this?

    Apart from that everything seems fine.
    Cheers

    Is it a rythmic flash or a intermittant flash? If the flshing seems deliberate I sounds as though it something to do with an alarm system possibly.

    let me re-write that...

    Is it a rythmic flash or an intermittant flash? If the flashing seems deliberate it seems as though it has something to do with an alarm system...possibly?

    yea its a rhythmic flash, id guess one per second for 30seconds. then stops for 30secs etc.. stops after about 5mins of car idling.

    My immobiliser stil has the green light in it when i start the car.

    something to worry about?

    Normally a security system will go straight into arm if battery is recharged or disconnected and reconnected. From this I would say it is ok if it only does it when you jump it/flat battery.

    Can you not disarm the alarm system???

    i dont have any idea how to disarm the alarm system??

    would be handy to know though, hows it done?

    The system on my VTS flashed the indicators and has a single red LED mounted in the row of switches above head unit.

    By the sounds of it you have an aftermarket one fitted as it flashes the head lights and has a bi-colour LED red/green. In which case it is likely to be remote control and I am guessing you don't have the fob.

    You need to make sure it doesn't do it whilst you are driving it if you can't switch it off. I would suggest remove the fuse for it if it is aftermarket but would be certain the immboliser won't be happy.
