need rubbing down then a coat of plastic primer then 3/4 coats of filler primer then wet flat with 600/800 wet and dry paper then 2-3 coats of gloss black / black base coat + 2 coats of clear coat.

not really doing with rattle cans as u wont get a high gloss finish and we only charge 90 inc vat at work to do them. hope this helps.

I'd do em yourself mate, Get some 800 wet and dry to give it a smooth finish, 2-3 coats primer, 2-3 coats of black paint, i used Renault Pearlescent black on mine as it has small bits of gold in it so looks great in the sun. Then to release the shine put on a few coats of 2k lauquer. It will cost you £20-30 to do yourself.

Iv recently done this myself, and got halfway through with pictures, then for some reason I stopped taking pictures lol

I took my whole kit off, apart from the front bumper which I just de-plated and masked. I took kit off cos I also sprayed some of my bottom half cos of scratches. It does look a whole lot better now cos my bump strips were fading a lot.

120 wet and dry to get the plastic smooth, then 2coats plastic primer, then 3-5 of gloss black (I used halfails) then 2 coats laquer, with each coat having been allowed to dry fr 15 mins and 1500 wet and dry wet smoothed to get a flawless finish

Don't be put off when the gloss black doesn't look gloss black, it is to be Matt blacked with wet and dry, then glossed with the laquer.

I will try and put up a guide on how to get the body kit off, because when done properly, the end results are much more intricate and worthwhile.

But the body kit is basically clipped on and the 2 biggest side panels have a strip of adhesive either side. I used a knife to get through this and got my kit off without snapping/bending it. Don't worry about breaking clips, they are 10-12 pence each from a Citroën garage.

tryed using a bit of back to black on them? a few mates of mine told me to give it ago.

dont use back to black or any forms of this, i'v heard from a guy who works at a hand car wash company that it draws black from within the plastic, thus reducing blackness in the long run.

plastic at this quality is very easily faded in the sun. especially with saxos that are 7-13 years old or whatever, so give them a good lick of gloss black x

well ill give it a go and ill let you all know how it goes

i got quoted 150 for this to be done with my mirrors aswell, and another 150 for my wheels to be refurbed and sprayed gloss black. the first body shop i went told me he would do the bumpers for 450 quid..... he couldnt be arsed basically.

thing is if you can get around using a bodyshop it will save you tons of money as bodyshops naturally like all businesses have to make a profit from there customers although some bodyshops go abit overboard on that.

i've started doin this recently. Doing it on the car. Some may say its not recommended to do it but i have managed to get a good prime coat so far. Just got to wet sand it to remove any impurities. Then add my base boat. If you make sure you sand well and be patient, you will at least get a satisfactory finish.

My mates just done this on his Zetec-S - he said it's not very hard to do it yourself and it definitely makes sense considering body shops will charge anything between 120 (cheapest I've been quoted) - 280 (highest).

im sure on all strips wether its a 1.0l or a vts they all leave holes when removed so they would need either welding or filling

I might do it on my TwoTone - make a sort of separation between the two colours.

Will definitely be doing this to my posi furio soon! Looks proper smart on wicked reds as well!
  25. #25
Ive got a wicked red 1.1 and its hit something on every corner and has left rather big scratches (previousowner) can you buy plastic filler good excuse to do this :-) ohh and does the gloss black and clear coat have to be special plastic paint or can I use plastic primer then e.g gloss black for top ?
  26. #26
Just take your time and make sure you smooth as much of the texture out the bumpstrips as you can as this will improve the end result.

im going to have a go at colour coding mine on my black saxo, only going to cost me 30 quid in paint etc and if it goes wrong then ill just go to the bodyshop.

This is quite worrying seeing as mine are coming off on their own accord :\

Also everyone is saying 2-3 layers of various, but do you ahve to sand between each layer? and if so what with?
