Random Loss of Power + Bunny Hops

  1. #1
    I have a 99 (V Reg) Saxo 1.1i East Coast with 79k on clock.

When i start up in the mornings, I have to put my foot on the accelerator to ensure it starts up (Vehicle will not start cold without foot on accelerator)

When pulling away the car sometimes bunny hops in 1st gear causing me to change into 2nd gear almost instantly, the car will then lose power intermittantly
    (18mph in 2nd, 27mph in 3rd, 38mph in 4th and 49mph in 5th)

    - This especially occurs when approaching a round-about making it very awkward to pull off (through fear i will lose power whilst entering the round- about and having to wait 1-3seconds for the car to acknowledge my foot is down on the accelerator pedal)

I could be driving normally, have to slow down for traffic and before i know it my car is not responding (in relation to having my foot down on the gas)

The Engine Management Light does not come one whilst driving with this fault.

    I have replaced -

    ICV
    Sparks
    Coil Pack
    Ignition Leads

I am about to replace the Lamda Sensor...

Could there be any other reasons why this is happening?

Many thanks in advance for looking at my thread, your opinions and efforts all help

Lamda Sensor replaced and still no difference =(

Im gonna get it put on a diagnostic machine but Citroen/Pug have told me £55+ VAT is this normal?

Ive been told it could be a fuel problem, does this sound about right?

Yes, Citroen do rip you off, put a bottle of redex through the system, could be injectors fubar'd, or loss of compression.

My car is in my uncles garage getting fixed due to practically the same issue. Mine is down to either fuel pump or fuel filter. Hoping its only the fuel filter cos the pump chepest is £100. With mine it would lack power and during acceleration jump, judder and almost stall. It had come to the point were the engine cut off EML came on and had to wait 15mins for it to fire up again. It could be anything mate which is the annoying thing. I replaced too the HT leads, spark plugs, coil pack and the crankshaft sensor, made the driving of the car better but still had the car shutting itself off. I wouldnt spend anymore money or what you my think it is and do what i did and take it to a garage and get a full diagnistic on it. I did and only 1 fault came up and that was injetion. Makes it easier to summerise what the problem is then cos you will only be looking at things that relate to the issue, so instead of finding a needle in a haystack your finding a needle in a small box with say 1 r two other items.

Good luck mate let us know how you got on

    Thanks for the threads guys,

Ive replaced Crank Shaft Sensor also and as we all expected did Sweet FA to my issue.

The random loss of power has almost disappeared in the cold weather however I am now finding extremely difficult to start and stay running, could this be a fuel pump issue?

i got same problem if F**king imbrassing when your at the lights
cleaned my carb changed oil new air filter all fine now

Sounds like a lack of fuel pressure mate try a new pump

I get this exact problem aswell! thankfuck im not the only one

might sound silly but a dogey icv can cause this, too much/to little air because its jamming open and closed and jamming beween doing both can make these problems occur

I had same problem mixed in loads of others found out that if you spray carm cleaner in the throttle body and make sure no earth leads are loose on the engine block this solved my issue.

As above - I had an East Coast in from someone with this problem (bunny hop effect) - it was electrical related - cleaned up all the earths and immobiliser / ecu - problem sorted.

As for cold starts - go for the basics - full service with new plugs and get a full tank of V Power through it.
