Knocking noise front driver side wheel

  1. #1
Theres a knocking noise coming from front driver side wheel and when braking it starts to 'grind' kind of. Discs and pads are newish and theres no play in the drive shaft. Any ideas what it could be?

    Cheers.

Check drive shaft boot and wheel bearing

How much you reckon that will cost??

Depends what it is, is the boot has slipped off, chuck some grease in and tighten it back up.

if its split then replacing it will be mainly a labour charge as a rubber boot won't cost much.

Bearings will be slightly more for the part but again its more labour costs

Less than £100 if that is the problem??

If you take it to a cheap garage it will be about £35 + VAT an hour labour

    Rough guide

    CV boot = 1 - 1.5 hours

    Wheel bearing = 2 - 2.5 hours

Then add cost of parts, not sure on how much bearings are as the garage may get a second hand one or use genuine parts
