Front Calipers

I have recently changed f/o/s strut from a phase 1 vtr onto my phase 2. i hade alot of play in wheel so changed the bearing because it was mashed. now it looks and feels as thought the caliper is loose even though it is tight as. braking is crap so i just wondered if the calipers are different between phase 1 and 2.

Unsure whether they are different so my response might be useless anyway.

I had a similar issue recently, the caliper was loose so it failed an MOT
Turns out the person who fitted them forgot to put the washers on, surprising how much difference it makes to the two bolts holding the caliper on.

    1) They're the same
    2) What washers?
    3) It'll be your wheel bearing that's failed due to the hub differences between mk1 and mk2, jack up the car and wobble the wheel - you'll most likely have some play indicating the bearing is on its way out.

If that's the case then the solution is a mk2 strut or a mk2 driveshaft on that side of the car, however you'll need a new bearing and it'll have to be the right one for the mk2.

yeah i had my mate down today to look at it and after thorough inspection we realised that because the bearing is different the driveshaft isnt flush in the hub so does anyone know even if the bearing is different between the 2 phases will the hub from my mk2 fit in mk2 strut?looks like the easiest and cheapest solution

sorry i mean will my mk2 hub fit in mk1 strut

The bearing is different. But only 'cause the central bore is larger on the mk2 to accommodate the larger tapered hub. So yes, a mk2 bearing SHOULD fit a mk1 hub, with the correct mk2 hub and shaft aswell.

    SHOULD.
