Bleeding brakes

ive done a search on how to bleed the brakes, which im confident in doing that, one thing im not sure on is how to get the old fluid out. do i:

    1) keep pumping brake until all fluid is out
    2) bleed the system with new fluid and wait until it is running out as new fluid at each caliiper

    any other methods?

i saw a pic on here somewhere with some piping from the brake reservoir to a tyre.. whats that?

Sounds like the Eazibleed system from Gunson. You fill a bottle with new brake fluid then this connects to your brake fluid reservoir ,then you connect a pipe (like a footbrake pipe) to your spare tyre. The pressure then pushes the new fluid from the bottle into the system.

It is a good gadget for bleeding brakes by yourself and you dont have to keep topping up the reservoir. If you buy one (about £20) just make certain that your spare tyre is deflated to around 10-15psi as if you connect to a spare with say 32psi it will blow the connection (along with fluid) off the reservoir.

    Cheers

if you let all of it drain out you're gonna be bleeding it until the cows come home!

You are best to drain it as by the look of it you do track work. It does take time and your best to have a friend give you a hand but a complete drain and refill is the best way to do. I would say though its very easy to get air in them so even after you think its done do one more lap of the car just to be posative.

car is only used on track. what is the best way to drain the old fluid? how much fluid req'd for complete refill/rebleed?

Its easy to tell the difference between old and new fluid..the color change is easily distingusiable.
Can easily do a full fluid change with a gunson easy bleed.
In my experiance draining a system and then refilling always leads to problems.
Use the easy bleed to push fluid through, wait until you get clean fluid..lock off the nipples then jam the brake peddle down for a few hours.
Release the pedal then repeat the bleeding, you may get a bit more air out but make sure you get more new fluid.
    Should be job done
