Fitted a vts into my vtr, however the ecu is off a different vts to the engine I fitted. It starts fine but the idling will idle at about 3k untill revved. It then fluctuates between 1500 and 2500 constantly bouncing up and down. Any idea what it could be?
New engine, serious idling problem - Not Icv?

#1

#2Idle control valve
-
#3or new map sensor
-
#4Is there any way of telling which of these it would be?
-
#6Cool
Anything else it could be and will try sort it tomorrow
-
#7Also check simple things like is the brake vacuum pipe on? Are any aux pipes secure and in good condition (not split). Is throttle cable to tight holding the throttle open?
Just daft stuff that we easily overlook during the excitement of fitting a new engine!
Good luck mate -
#8revs sticking may be coolent temp sensor, only £12 from shitroen for a vts, fixed my fault and it was the same as urs
-
#9Just found a random plug that isnt plugged in... Also ran car for about ten minutes and it got very hot very quickly to the point the red light came on. Revs seem stick really badly also. Anyway yeah this isnt plugged in? Am i meant to have used the vts or vtr loom?

#10Still no ideas?

#11have u a larger pic were that sensor is by as i cant make it out lol...
have u tried the temp sensor?? just when its over revving disconnect it and if the revs drop / temp then job done, get a new 1
its the green top sensor -
#12Will try that in a minute, and that one is next to the temp sensor above the gearbox.
Edit: Just tried and all it did was make it rev a bit hgher. Still had the same probem.
Also if it helps when I first start the car it idles at about 1200 then as it warms up it idles higher and then after 5 minutes or so goes completely stupid -
#13did u find out if it was your icv??
-
#14Wasnt that either

#15Ive got this, replaced ICV and Throttle body, no avail. check my thread titled Right... im rreally clutching at straws, but oh well
-
#16Just cleaned ICV again, when spraying the carb cleaner through the TB the revs drop completely till it cuts out which is normal, but now instead of the revs gradually building they shoot up to about 3800 and dont ove unless you rev it, which causes them to go higher. No bouncing though so maybe i put it back together wrong?

#17I saw that pic, it looks like the coolant temp sensor isn't even plugged in?
-
#18The only one not plugged in is the brown one as there is nothing coming off the loom for it?
-
#20Cheers mate
, I thought that was the green one for some reason. Out of interest should I have used the vts or the vtr loom?
-
#22Nah used the vts loom :|
-
#23Anything else to tryy?
