smaller engine for bigger swap

    Hi
It might seem strange to everyone here but I am thinking of dropping a 1.4 saxo engine into my sons VTR for economy and cheaper tax and insurance.Just wondered what would be involved and what bits I would need off the 1.4 saxo? Not sure if i would need ECU,wiring loom ,gearbox etc

It might sound daft but insurance might be higher. Any mention of an engine conversion (regardless of power increase) will put off an insurer!

Gearbox can stay (will be a slightly different ratio but not too noticeable)
Ecu will be need to be swapped as the immobiliser code won't match otherwise. This may also mean keys and door locks need changing.

Wiring i'm not too sure about.

Engine, loom, ecu are the main things. Would be cheaper to buy a furio transfer any parts he wants and sell the VTR standard

yes you are probably right I will look at buying a furio and selling the vtr methinks as long as furios come in black that is.

Will be A LOT cheaper to sell the vtr and buy a furio. Probably have a bit of change left aswell! As for furios coming in black, im fairly certain they do

I'd get a curio and add vtr/s rims and interior. Like it's been said insurance would possibly go up and it's not worth the hassle for a car that you'd seriously struggle to sell on in future

Thanks all for advice.having checked with insurance they would want more as modified and also want an engineers report. So I am going to sell it and buy a Furio which will save me a lot of work.
