Just head gasket replacing or skimming also?

as its only covered 4 miles in red on water temp may possibly get away with skimming

Will more than likely be warped... you will need new head bolts, gasket kit, head skimmed and suggest an oil filter, oil change and coolant change probably looking £200 for parts depends how much you want to shop around.
If your competant do everything but the skimming yourself if not expect to pay £300-500

£350 including all parts using Payen head gasket, Gates cambelt kit, new bolts, skim and pressure test. Don't use cheap parts, you'll regret it. Thats why we only use parts from recognised manufacturers like Gates,Payen,AE etc.

thanks to all that commented am happy to report that the brief overheating was caused by an airlock in coolant system which was bled and after 30 miles havent seen a water temp over halfway. they also did a pressure test on the coolant system and there was very little drop in psi and no leak was visible so think ive been very lucky to escape overheating to the point of blowing the head gasket through - has cost me a 10er in total for that trip to garage.

back to happy motoring again and service due next month to keep it happy
