Important! : Engine management light

  1. #1
    Hello,

Right need some help, BASICALLY was driving down the motorway for around 5 minutes, then my engine management came on for about a minute, then went off, and then a minute later, low and behold it came back on and stayed on,

There was no differences in the way the car was responding apart it felt like every so often when i would put the throttle down it would choke very slightly, and have been noticing that lately when i drive the Vtr from cold its very dogged and jerky and sometimes and on the odd occasion it would stall, however when warm its perfectly normal,

Have any of you guys got any suggestion as to it could be, I have seemed to have this slight problem ever since i have installed the rallye inlet system, wondered if this could have anything to do with it maybe?

cheers for reading, and thanks for the help

Dogged and jerky? So it hesitates yeah?

Struggle on cold start or not?

    Use more petrol than usual?

Simplest thing treacle would be to get a diagnostic test done.

You didn't disturb any sensor wires when you did the inlet did you, like tug them to move them or move them to suit the rallye inlet did you? Could be something as simple as a loose connection

Could just be the cat on the way out. As someone else said above, get a diag. Cheap as chips. If you were nearer to me I'd do it for you.

True, could just be one of the lambda's on it's way out

and diagnostics would pick that up yes?

    yer hesitates in cold start

however the light has gone off now,

how much is a diagnostics though?

Matt don't you remember that little machine you had when you plugged it into my car, the readings came out fine

yer well annoying, sometimes does it, sometimes it doesn't

I have similar on mine, happened while driving down the motorway too, put the diagnostic machine on it and suprise suprise it was the cat, so stainless steel next week with decat should sort that one out, id put money on it being the same thing

Where do you go to get this diag machine check done? How much did it set you back? I think i'll have to do the same as you man
  10. #10
Jord you had no eml light then, so nothing would show up.
  11. #11
yer but if its going to keep coming on or off then something must be up, plus I have no cat, have to see what happens
  12. #12
Yeah, faults develop over time, they aren't just always there.

You need to get a diag test done, you wont know what the actual fault is until you get that done.

Even if you haven't got the cat, you can still have a faulty lambda reading.

turns out it was the lambda sensor in the manifold

bought a devil 4-2-1 manifold with a new lambda in it, fitted and now the car's perfect much to my liking

Cheers but I think its sorted apart from the manifold mount not lineing up completely right, It resting on the lwer strut and rattles loads, so annoying!

Need to get it on hydraulic lifters and drill a bigger hole for the bolt
