New Project - Input needed

    Ok guys...

If my VTR doesn't sell I'm considering something nice and fun

The plan is to purchase a J4 engine with JP4 head (just awaiting confirmation and I have this secured)

The second plan is to either boost, TB, charge, nitrous or leave N/A with a nice cam and predator..

Budget isn't too much of an issue but without the cost of the basic engine I want to spend around 2-3k , this can obviously be worked around if there's anything else I've overlooked.

    Key points I have...

Can I run my VTR box on this? or would that impact performance negatively?

Which would you suggest from those options? which would be best for a daily driver but also fun!

I Do 400 mile round trips from Leeds to Bristol, will this be an issue or if I spend enough and do the job properly it will be totally fine?

I wouldnt use the VTR box, heard that they are pretty poor. Id say get a VTS box as you still plan to go on the motorway.

You wont get reliable boost for £2-3k, bodies might be achievable. Nos is pointless as you will need to keep refilling it and it doesnt last that long.
Would say cams, ecu and remap, decent exhaust, manifold. Spend the rest on handling/brakes if you plan on tracking it, or save up more for boost if you want it.
Are you going to just use it on the road or do some track days?

I only suggested the VTR box for a slight bit of MPG, if that's even possible with some serious modifications. 70mph in my VTR, is less than 3k rpm, I believe it's higher in a VTS from what I've heard.

I'm tempted to start the hunt for an S1 rallye box, failing that I have a 1.1 box from the mango in the garage still, which could be fun until it blows up.

I've been looking at the £2,800 service offered by Luthor who does the Predator ECU's, drive in turbo setup running 6psi ready to roll.

Then I've got a starting point and can push it further after that. I'd be aiming for around the 180 mark eventually.

I will be doing the 'Ring' next year at some point and it will be doing track time at shows but not many trackdays, As I don't want to be thrashing the bollocks off it and spending a bomb having it maintained.

It will be used for motorway journeys twice a month, 450miles ish per round trip, and commuting to work (around 6-8 miles) I don't drive like a 'Tard so it won't blow up constantly :-)

If you have the bhp the longer gear ratio of the vtr box will not matter
-used to be a vid of a s/c saxo vts with a vtr g/box doing 160+ on SSC--
so gearing is secondary to bhp in a road car if you have the grunt
