Saxo Furio Starting Problem....

Ok, just recently when i went to start my car, it would not start, the battery had died, so jumped the car off my mates car and it started. Then later that day, i was parked up waiting on my girlfriend to finish work, but kept the car running to keep warm, then i noticed that the temperature gauge was full with the red light on, so i thought, oh sh*t and turned the car off; but the fan did not stop and kept running, so then i tried to start the car again, and it wouldn't start, so again i had to jump the car.

Sorry about the story, but why does my fan stay on like that and kill the battery? Doesn't do it all of the time..

Also, sometimes it takes my car a few times to turn over, same problem? or different one?

    Any help is appreciated.

Sounds perhaps like a faulty thermostat telling the car it's overheating when it isn't. It should turn the fan off after a period of time (when the temperatures reach a lower level) but sounds like the 'stat is not capable of switching itself off any more, and flattens your battery.

Have any other gauge done anything odd? like the rev gauge go up or something. Mine did this and it was the alternator so id say its either your battery got a dodgey cell or your alternator on its way. My fan also stuck on aswell i had to disconnect the battery for 5 mins to get it to stop.

Everything else seems to be fine.
