Front disc replacement

I need to replace my front discs, but the guy who owned the car before me must have tried to replace them too since it's now impossible to remove the securing screws with a torx key. Haynes suggests either using a impact driver (I fail to see it making a difference) or to drill them. If I do drill them I'm scared I ruin the tread & then be unable to fit new screws. Can you fit the discs without the 2 securing screws?

Yes you can. It is just a retainer to stop disc falling off when you remove the wheel. Heat and an impact driver normally gets them out.

Id try and have atleast one screw in

Right I had the same problem. Screw heads on my car we damaged.

I got round it by drilling the head off it. Then hammered the disc so it bent the slope of the screw inwards till the disc could slide off. It will push the remainder of the screwhead inwards creating a round cup type shape. You can then get some pliers and unscrew the retaining screw. Its what I have done and new screws have been fitted.

You only need to drill the head off, then should be able to grip the thread with pliers and unscrew it.
You only need to have one in place

I drilled both until the head came off & used pliers to get the rest out. My driver's side screws came out without a hassle, so I just used 1 of those screws to fasten the other 1. Thanks for the advice. Now for trying to get the Air Bag warning light to go off....

Airbag light might not go off, on every french car I have owned I have had issues with them. Bar the current one, as I removed the system.

impact driver or drill easy task

You don't need them. They're only there to hold the disc in place when the wheel's off.
Just drill them out and stop being a baby
