ECU- Unlocked- how to remain unlocked...

Ok, I want to put my mind at rest and not make an error that would lock an ECU I have bought.

My old ECU has packed up.

I have an old VTS which uses a keypad. I know the code.

Does this mean I can put an unlocked ECU in my car.

If it did lock, is the code a matter of the keypad (knowing a code and sending a signal to the ECU) OR is it the ECU which expects a code.

Also, on an unlocked ECU there is a pin you can remove so that it never locks again. Can anybody confirm which pin this is (as this new ECU does have a pin removed, I just dont want to put it in and find it was just a random pin missing!)... For security reasons this info may be best via PM.

is the code a matter of the keypad (knowing a code and sending a signal to the ECU) this, i know to unlock an ecu you start your car with the imobiliser in then removing it with the engine running, so when you turn the car off the ecu doesnt recieve a signal from the imobiliser to lock the ecu.

if i were you i would remove the key pad before you put in the ecu and start it up.

but weither you can put your keypad back on with the car running then turn it off, i dont know if it will set the new ecu to the old keypad or lock it perminetly, i would just leave it off tbh.

Not sure if the above is accurate so take this advice at your own risk, i have a mk2 thats de-imobilised but the they dont use a keypad they have a imobiliser ring on the ignition barrel mines is disconnected perminetly
