   what can i physically check myself, (ive done tyres, lights etc) because i know very little about the mot side of cars.

   I've got mine on wednesday mate! Have a look at the stickies at the top of the section, there's a good guide!
   
   Just have a look for any play in suspension components etc., exhaust for any blows, fluids at right levels...

   Im not that good to check any play in suspension lol, checked exhaust and checked the fluids.
