More 16v Problems - Lack of Power

  1. #1
    Hi all,

I put a 2nd engine in my rallye, went out all was fine, started getting hot, still fine. Went to the cinema and it just started to hate revving and started idling at 2k.
Came out of the cinema, she started up normal again. Got home and noticed as it had warmed up it wasn't revving past 5500rpm in 4th. But went past it in 5th.
So got in it next day, everything fine again, started having revving problem at 5500rpm. So went to the garage and cleaned all the throttlebody and sensors.
Went to town, and wouldn't rev past 4500 then 3500 then 2500 then 1500 and got worse and better all day. Can smell its overfueling as all it does is litterally sit at 3500 etc like it won't rev further, then as you let your foot off bang. Just popping like mad.
    Went home, changed the following:
    Coilpack
    Crank Sensor
    Map Sensor
Throttlebody and all Sensors on it
    ECU

And it made no difference, still not getting past 2500rpm in any gear, got fed up and went out in my mates car.
Come back and it was stone cold, and it ran fine.

After i changed the above though it idles perfect at exactly 900rpm everytime, comes off the revs nicely too.

I had been running it on literally no petrol the night before just to test it was working though, so could of sucked some crap through?

Any help would be much appreciated as i am gonna burn it soon

    Cheers Tom

    Dodgy temperature sensor?

Would give that a go as it gave me similar problems to what you've described. Like you I changed a heap of parts/sensors with no affect, before i worked my way to the temp sensor.

    Crank position sensor?
  4. #4
Mate thought you bent some valves? If you didn't and remember you saying you got a new crank sensor?

Check you lambda mine used to just stop revving a points and it was my lambda sensor was broken

Thanks for the replies, will try the temp sensor as i haven't done that one yet.

I done the CPS with a new one but nothing was better.

And I did have bent valves, so i stuck another 16v in there. It was running fine for a day and now this...

Hmm well check your lambda sensor

It doesn't bring up the managment light.
I thought it could be headgasket, but it doesn't overheat and the water is fine.

Will have to find a lambda as this car has skinted me.

yer well doesnt always bring the light on sound to be an on and off fault anyway, well mine turn out to be the lamdba sensor.

Would it run okay when it was cold?
  11. #11
mine did wqhen it started to get abit temp in it... but not all the time though.

Well i did the temp sensor, did nothing...
Did the block relay under the ecu, did nothing...

Then i left the negative off the battery and re-set the ecu and bingo...

    Runs like a beaut

Thanks for all your help! Knowing me it won't be running tomorow...
