Oil cooler

    Quick question really.
Worth using one of these on a cammed VTS engine?

Had a quick search and found a mixed bag of results

If your gonna be using it for track use id recommend it so that oil temperature doesn't get too high.

Track use i would, but other than that i wouldnt, last thing you want is to over-cool your oil and stop it flowing haha

yer really only need for track days, as normal driving the vts will be ok with oil temps.

Could you use it with a thermostatic sandwitch plate for a fast road car? That surely would over cool?

as said, unless its just used as a track car then no, its a waste of time and won't be doing any favours.

my oil temp sits quite low with an oil cooler and thats with the oil being used through the turbo!

only time i've had it above half way on the standard guage is when i've been on track.

they dont work mate, you cant get the right temp thermostat, they still overcool your oil, ive got a brand new one for the turbo build but not gonna bother if at all fitting it till next summer

maddison, whats yours like driving on turbo with cooler? im scared to fit mine as the car barely gets warm on morning and evening runs to work, i just live 10 mins from work if im lucky, cold monrings are scarey as is lol

it takes ages to get the car up to temperature, which gets annoying.
was more than needed when i took it on track though!
my oil temp sits at around 1/3 when i'm driving around normally with a few little blips on boost. give it a boot full for a while and it will go up to just under half way. When i back off and drive normally, it goes straight back to nomal again.

there are a lot of times when i have no need for it at all to be honest, but i can't not have it at all if you get me?

yeah i know what you mean, is that with a stat in or not? i dont wanna fit mine till after the really cold weather is gone as my car wouldnt warm up on a morn, but think i may have a bash after, or poss fit a blanking plate to cover the cooler itself when not needed, this may solve the prob

no stat in it, not heard much good about them tbh.

its ok tbh, takes about 4 miles for the oil gauge to start moving with mine in this weather.

but i drive like an aboslute sissy when the engine is cold, never above 1/4 throttle, never above 3,000 rpm etc etc.
i'm sure if i was less considerate it would warm up relatively quickly.

Ok lads thanks for all the helpful replies. I was offered one a Mocal one cheap enough from a mate, but if ive no need for it then no point spending cash on it.
Cant see track days happening any time soon

    Love and kisses xxxx

4 miles :fuck: id remove it for the winter if i was you mate, justr think you start the car in cold temps the oil is like glue, if its like this itll be ha to get it round the engine into the components that need lubricating, youll getserious engine wear if its not lubricating properly after 1 mile never mind 4 lol

yeah, i have thought of taking it off and using the standard one, but if i want to open it up, its going to get far too hot without the cooler i'd expect!
