r6 bodies

will 1998 R6 throttle bodies/carbs run on my gti? i know i will need to get a inlet but what else would i need if they would run on it

the answer is yes but you need to fit bigger jets / nozzles as the standard r6 boddies dont flow enough fuel. give bogg bros a call and ask them for some advice just try do the work yourself insted of taking it somewhere as they charge loads to put bike carbs / boddies on a car.

thanks for the info mate, i read there is two sorts one has injectors other is just fuel pipe

can i run them off my standard ecu? and i will have a search for the bigger jets

what sort of air filter do i have to get for them?

you will need a stand alone fuel injection ecu for the throttle boddie ones as well as some sort of ecu to run the coil pack and ignition system.

for the carb version you will need to eitha get bigger jets or drill them open.you will also need something to run the spark for that too.

you can use any air filter you like most just run trumpets and dont bother some use throttle body filters such as itg and k&n

also there is no chance at all that your car will pass the emissions withbike carbs/boddies as the emissions go sky high and will fail.

another thing is it costs a fortune for very little gain and a whole lot of rolling road time to get them set up right.

if i was you i would just start saving for a throttle body system and not bother with carbs/boddies as throttle boddies are way more tunable and use less fuel and are made for the job in hand and not been adapted.

oh right a lot of people have said that carbs can be used with standard ecu? just thought you needed a fuel pressure regulator?

nope not that easy if you take out the ecu you still need something to control ignition. and carbs are fed by gravity on a bike or supply on demand fuel pump so need to wire that in alot more hassle than you think thats why bogg bro's charge in excess of 1k to do the conversion and to set it up then come mot time you have to take it all off and go back standard.

so to run the r6 carbs i would need to go for a stand alone ecu?

what about throttle bodies? if i got some gsxr 1000cc throttle bodies could i run them from standard ecu?
  8. #8
no carbs dont need a ecu you just need something to controll ignition such as a distributor i think they sell kits on lark speed i dont think you realise how hard it is to get the car running good on carbs you will more than likely loose 10% power unless you throw loads of money at a rolling road guy who knows how to set up carbs and there are hardly any that can now as they mostly do cars with ecu's and just plug and play.

the best thing to do mate is give bogg bro's a call and have a word with them within 15 mins after the phone call you will realise how much money its going to cost and how much stuff you need to modify and change you will decide not to.
or just do some research on the net you will find all your answers.
