I can't get the boss off, i've undone the big ass nut in the center but there is no play in it at all!
Have i missied something?

They're held on the splines pretty damn tight. If you've got the wheel still on, then just bang your hands on the back of the wheel to pop it off. If it's just the boss, get hold of a set of pullers.

Greed pullers are the best way, don't go hitting the column with and boss with anything.

when you hit it from behind make sure the steering wheel doesnt samck u in the eeth i learned from tht mistake uite painfull

i was just going to say leave the stearing wheel attached and give it a bloody good pull it should just come loose and pull off
Put the nut loosely back on - put the wheel back on (but leave the centre part-horn push off) and then pull/bang the rear of the wheel with your hands and forearms and it should come free.
Leaving the nut on (only a few turns not tight against the boss) avoids you needing to see the dentist.
