Manky water in engine

Right, so i bought the 16v engine with a suspected blown head gasket, apon stripping it down the head gasket was intact with no leaks. The leak was infact coming from a leaking rocker cover. Drainded all of the oil from the sump and was all one colour, pretty much black. So what is the cause of the manky water? Its not oily, just brown and gunky? my first thought was that the previous owner drowned it, but engine is not rusty or seized Any ideas welcomed!

lmao, there all manky, the hot water rusts the cast iron block from within, it then goes really browny from all the iron deposited in the water

Ah right, so basically i paid 150 for a vts engine with a small leak and manky water that can be replaced, cheered me up!

Yeah water will go that colour almost a week after you change it lol

    Bargain there then !!!!

Will de-ironised water help? I work for a company with a big spray area and all they use is de-ironised water so it will be free.

Anti-freeze has corrorison inhibitors in it.
  8. #8
Yes as previously stated...anti freeze has anti corrosion protection

not all anit freeze does, cheap shit corrodes more

Might go for some pre-mixed then, see what halfrauds have to offer.

I have never seen any antifreeze that does not contain a corrosion inhibitor --you should NEVER run ANY engine on plain water as all engines have disimilar metals in them ,so they will cause a battery type action which means corrosion ., blocked/or holed heater matrix+ poor cooling .
25% will give you protection from reezing 33%-50% --depending on type of coolanr will give you corrosion protection.
it should be changed every 3 years .
the only exception is something like "water wetter" which improves cooling ,but has no anti-freeze quality .
