VTR engine management light - cat

  1. #1
I have a 52 plate VTR and the engine management light has been coming on intermitantly, had a diagnostic done today, came back with needing a new cat and lamba sensor. But it passed its MOT last weekend with no faults from the exhaust, emissions or cat. when the light was on.

The car is running fine, replaced the ICV last month.

Any ideas as they have quoted me £260 and hes not sure if thats going to fix the problem.

    Thanks

it shouldnt have passed mot if the light was on during the test but if quoted that much u might aswell get yourself a shiney new 4 branch mani and lambda blanking sleeve. problem sorted and more power aswell best of both worlds

not sure why it passed the mot if the emissions were out as for the engine management light that is not an mot failure id fit a lambda sensor and see what happens

As above. Change the lambda sensor, see what the reading is. I was stupid today and left my lambda disconnected after cleaning - Engine management light was straight on...

If you know someone with a spare lambda, just swap them over and see if there is a difference? Its the cheapest option.

The price you`ve been quoted is pretty steep try ebay for a new Lambda sensor/cat.Not hard to fit yourself mate.

my vtr had the same fault code read by the AA.

They reset it but it came on a few days later,

Also still on now and its been through mot with it, but only just passed emmisions by the skin of the cat

i have the EXACT same problem and came on to just ask the same question! i have had the light on for the last 9 months of owning the car! everytime they put it through the diagnostic it turns off for a few days then pops back on, emissions checked and its fine, it passed its MOT saturday because the emissions were spot on.

I don't really want to dig up the cash to get a new sensor or cat when the car seems to be fine!

no idea what i can do

i had my cat changed a few months back and that cost me 120 fitted brand new shiny one so thats a tad steep but thats all i can say for the garage that did mine
and might be good to get a cat off a car from the scrappers and see if that works any better could be worth a shot
