Oil and Coolant lights flickering

  1. #1
Noticed recently my oil and coolant lights have been flickering - more noticably when the car is turning right, for some reason.

The car doesn't seem to be overheating and seems to be running quite happily - apart from this little niggle.

Checked the dipstick, and the oil is between min and max - if anything, I'd say it's probably at maximum. I'll check this in light tomorrow, when the car has cooled down.

    In the meantime, any ideas?

when my oil light was flickering on and off i check my oil and noticed there was plenty of oil in but still it continued to be on. i checked under the bonnet and it was my oil pressure switch so check your oil pressure switch as if oil is leaking from there then this coujld be the problem or just change the switch anyway i mean if it is this switch your only talking about 10 quid i think for a new one. Hope this helps!

I'll check when it's light, but never noticed any oil spots where I park.

Can somebody tell me where the oil pressure switch is on a 1.1i SX? Picture would be even better.

Well today I checked the dipstick, and the oil seems to be fine - maybe it's me being a novice, but as far as I know you just take the stick out on level ground, wipe it, put it back it and out and check between the two marks.

I added 200ml of Shell's semi HX7 10-40 oil, and the light seems happy to stay out.

I was more bothered by the fact that the light came on while turning but the the oil was pretty much near the max mark on the dipstick!

yea to check your oil normally but if there is oil in the system and the oil pressure switch is goin then it could show up on the dash light. i will try and use our good friend Google™ on this one

Thanks Lee! If it turns out I need to renew the oil pressure switch, I suppose I'll end up with oil up to my eyeballs!

In other words, if it is the switch would it be a wise idea to put some fresh oil in at the same time?

the oil itself should be ok, i mean once u do change it u can just top it up to medium to max, i never top mine to max incase i put too much in... i looked all over internet and looks like a screw shaped item, single wired that usualy is near the engine itself...
ill keep on looking for ya. n ill post back when i found something, i think last i was under my bonnet it was on the right side of engine quite low down....dont hold me on that one im only going on my memory recall lol..

Hearing a high pitched noise from the car at about 2K - not sure if's the brakes or engine. Oil is just above max, likewise the coolant - the result of me being overly cautious... .

Tempted to attack the coolant fluid with a turkey baster, and find a tool to let some oil out. At the back of my mind, I wonder if it's my oil pump? The lights are on a lot now.

Think I'll just see a mechanic tomorrow, and pray he uses Anal Eaze.
