have i locked my ecu

   i had some probs with my engine so took the head off, disconnected the battery as you do, but now my mate says i locked my ecu can any one shed any light on this.

   totally depends? anymore info? what happens when you turn the key? assuming youve even tried as youve not explained much? have you timed it up right? what problems did you have that needed you to remove the head
   
   p.s if it is locked youll need a new unlocked ecu, or get yours unlocked, i have an unlocked vtr ecu for sale, if your interested pm me as i want less then it will cost you to get yours unlocked..... this is the only way to get round it if this is your prob

   i haven't put the head back on yet, just disconnected the battery and unplugged the ecu. the engine was running lumpy like cylinder1 wasn't firing, when i got the car i was told it had burnt a hole in the piston. took the head off and no hole just a bit of damage on the top of piston.

   dude just diconecting it WONT lock it shud be fine when u put it all back together

   so disconnecting the battery wont lock the ecu then. im confused.

   no disconnecting the battery will not lock the ecu, end of. if it did then every time you changed the battery you'd need to get it un-locked. don't worry, and don't listen to heresay

   have you just listened to your friend? maybe you should try putting it back together.. turn the key and listen to it start

    It could lock... mine did but it didnt lock when the hole engine was out so....... weird.

    Same happened to me when i took the head off, it was fine when the hole engine was out though. Never found a cure to this day the only way i can think is get the ecu unlocked again but mines a 3 plug and i cant find anywhere. Besides the ecu has already been permanently unlocked and has the imobilizer prongs chopped out...... no idea. If anybody know let me know please asap.
