Hi i'm sure you all know, saxo sunroofs leak! mine was no different, so i finally decided to sort it out properly. Just thought i'd post how i've got on with it really:
Having searched numerous forums online, i soon realised i would have to remove the sunroof completely and would need to clean the drainage pipes out.
So i firstly removed the sunroof and as soon as i did this, it was pretty obvious where the water was getting in. In the bottom corners i noticed alot of rust, so to see just how bad it was i started pokin through the rust with a screwy, eventually i made 2 holes about an inch i'd say. I then realised i was going to have to fill these holes with something, so i went out and bought some body filler (got some funny looks driving round with a big hole in my roof!)
So ye i then filled the 2 holes with body filler and waited for it to set. Once that was done i needed to test the drain pipes, so i poured water down but as i was expecting it was blocked. I found some garden wire in our shed which i used to feed down the pipes to try and unblock. The drivers side was pretty easy, i poked through and then poured more water down to clear it out and i could see underneath the car it was running through fine now.
The passenger side was a different story though, tried the same as the drivers side, but i could only get the wire to a certain point and it would go no further. So i went out and bought some thicker wire from BnQ, tried it but still was having the same problem. By this point i was gettin pretty peed off, so i came inside and had another look online to see if i could find a solution. I read on some other forum that due to a design fault, there are 2 bolts under the glove box (next to the bonnet release) that block the pipe. So i went back outside and found them, 1 is rite by the bonnet release and the other was an earth cable bolted to the body work under the carpet.
I completly undid the 2 bolts (when rebolting them i only did them hand tight) and then tried to run water through the pipes and unblock them with the wire again. And hey presto! i looked under the car and it was running through perfectly. I was well chuffed.
After all this i then needed to put everthing back in place. When i tried to put the sunroof back in though i noticed it was sitting up abit more than before. I realised this was because where i had put the body filler, thats where the sunroof sits. So i then spent the next 4 hours (serious) sanding the body filler down (and my fingers!) so that the sunroof fits in right.
Thats where im up to, tommorows job will be to fix the sunroof back in and seal the crap out of it, im takin no chances even though i've "fixed" the drains.
