power steering messing up

   my power steering is unresponsive (heavy steering) when i start the car, but after a bit of driving along normally it kicks in.
   
   i checked the power steering fluid and its fine, what could be causing this?

   is it making a squelling noise if you lift the bonnet up? Turn it full lock left to right and see if it makes any noises.

   £40-60 from a scrappy and fit it yourself nice easy job
