Removing a 8v vtr cam

Does anybody know if it's possible to remove a 8v cam without taking the head off?
I was just thinking maybe move the ecu up and out of the way somwhere, undo the engine mount and use a jack and raise the engine to gain enough access to slide it out, or am I barking up the wrong tree here lol

i removed my head to do mine mate i don't know if that's the correct way to do it but it seemed the easiest way for me and it gave me more space and warmth in the kitchen to do it lol.

Yeah that is the correct way to do it, but I've recently done a head gasket and I don't fancy taking the head of again and wasting money buying a new head gasket, plus head bolts and skim.

Well you wont need to skim it again if you just did so. And Yes the only way to remove them is to remove the head

Well if your patient enough and careful enough you may get away with tilting the engine and sliding the cam out, I've not tried it, nor have I seen anyone else do it, but I bet it could be done

How ever you will still have to change the cambelt kit etc, spose their is a fair amount to be saved and time saved by not removing the head and replacing headgasket and skimming it and new bolts etc etc

Why not give it a try? There's no harm in trying, I'd say undo the lower engine mount, and undo the gearbox mount, then loosen the mount under the ecu then tilt slowly and carefully, would maybe be handy having 2 jacks aswell?

Also you will still need to remove the rocker cover to adjust the tappets and watch the cam go in ok, and may aswell replace the rocker seal too along with a new cam seal.

So yer certainly no harm in trying it

it can be done, but the effort needed is pointless, you cant do it without disturbing the h/g, so you will need a new one, can get decent gaskets on there own for about £12, is it worth the fuck on for that price?
