can't help but think it's easier to just drive the vts instead of changing over the engine

There's loads of threads on this, and 'get a VTS' is always the answer when converting a 1.1.

You'll need to swap over the loom, an unlocked ECU, engine, and hook up a fuel return.

Then as you're converting a 1.1, you'll want to uprate the suspension and convert the rear brakes from drums to disc brakes - unless you want to run a 120bhp+ tin can on drum brakes in the rain.

Man talks sense Would also advise getting a bigger brake upgrade like the pug 306 GTi6 set up as the standard saxo brakes are shit as it is.

And as soon as he takes it in for MOT, it fails

you sound like a bit of a tool in the first place saying that you wont insure it....

and you need to change a mount welded a vts mount in for it to fit..

    bet you dont vts it!!!
  11. #11
Would be nice to see if he does drop a vts in, but what liam-o said is correct, id happily do that!
But when it comes to the mot you need to know sombody to get you through it fine or say to the tester you will give him a fiver for everything that should fail.....
Just dont sell the car with a dodgey mot cause its not nice

That would make a car illegal. Insurance would be void, MOT would fail, tax would be in the wrong bracket. And allthough some MOT places can be abit forgiving/dodgy, I doubt you would find many that would ignore the fact a car has no chassis plates.

Rear drums are fine. They do very little work in such a nose heavy care anyway. And drum brakes are just as good as most disc brakes, just harder to maintain.

If its only for when its rainin and bad weather then just use the 1.1. Drums will be fine at the rear much heavier cars have drums on the rear and they only do like 20% of the braking anyway. Have a go on a push bike and use the rear brake to see what i mean.

Also just because a car is more powerfull dosent mean you need larger brakes, when you brake you dont have your foot to the floor on the throttle. A more powerfull car may get to a higher top top speed then brake and accelarate quicker to the top speed again gettin the discs hot therefore needin larger calipers/discs to distribute the heat. Will you need that in he real world on a road car?

I think you will find from my posts that yes, I am 'hot' on this sarcasm stuff. However, I tend to leave the sarcasm for gen chat, and try and give serious help in this side of the forum.
You know it will fail MOT. I know it will fail MOT, but if you say that to a newbie who doesnt have a clue, they may well just go and do it. The lad in this case may well be daft enough to follow your advise, all I was doing was putting a point there that he can read so he knows not to do it. Some people actualy do things like that and sell cars on.

    So pipe down lad
