what bhp ?

  1. #1
hi i have a mk1 vtr and was just wondering roughly what bhp it would be kicking out the mods include
    4-2-1 branch manifold
    decat
high lift cam (unsure what type)
    remap
    straight threw
    4" backbox
    k&n airfilter
    vent filter
im asumming the filters dont realy make a diffrence lol
only had the car a couple of weeks and have not had it on the road yet cause ive a few things to do to it before m.o.t
the lad that owned it before me recons its faster than a standard vts but i doubt it lol
    thanks

Its hard to say as all cars vary but something around 115-120bhp IMO prob would be standard vts pace

sweet its also got a diesel gear box
when i get everything sorted i will take it to the track and race my mate in his standard vts lol

That would be driver ability though not necessarily speed..

Best way is to get them both rr'd and see who's is quicker if you were that bothered
  5. #5
    supose lol
i was thinking about getting it on the rr would be nice to findout
  6. #6
TBH my worry would be how they have managed to fit more than 1 cam into a single cam head.
Could put them both on a RR but that wont really prove which is quicker etc.Its more about the delivery and so on.
  7. #7
    my bad ment CAM lol
yea just realy suprized that its anywere near as fast as a S like
  8. #8
IIRC Diesel box is longer - so would loose any gain from more power.
A shorter box S or 106 XSI/Rallye might be better!

    more than one cam?

well the old were taken out and new put in?
just replaced whatever cams were in there..

so yeah how the power is delivered..

your will find out whos quicker off the line.. through the gears and peak power... so you would find out whos quicker?

Lol I think you slightly misunderstood the cam part.

The lads initial post said 'cams' cams being more than 1.....his car is a vtr, which is a single cam.

Hence Nik's comment 'TBH my worry would be how they have managed to fit more than 1 cam into a single cam head' meaning how can you put 2 cams in a single cam head lol

http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=125615 Read that, all ratio's in there mate
  14. #14
roughly 100-105bhp no more you have a mk1 which starts off 90bhp, depends if it really is cammmed ie do you have proof and how well it looked after as many of the mk2 vtr that were rolling roads with all breathing mods where making 105, and they start with 100bhp
  15. #15
Hmm a desiel box nicecand long will take an age to get though the gears, and could be less than it start with if the cam wasn't setup correctly just dnt know, was it mapped? For high lift cam?
  16. #16
Well theres a recept for a cam install and map so thats the only way i defo know like
What would be the best box for it then ?

    s1 rallye

or for a slightly longer final driver, XSI or s2 rallye
  18. #18
Acording to the link it will not change my mph but maby im reading it wrong lol
  19. #19
it should increase your mph in each gear because it is taking you longer to get through the gear. A Shorter ratio gearbox means you can accelerate quicker but less top end.

s1 box is AWESOME when they work, but they are the weakest link in a 106 imo, if they are not looked after they have a horrible habit of whining, grinding into gear and reverse becoming a swine to select! But like a said, thats if they arent looked after. Coming across a good second hand one will take a while, but will be worth fitting!

As for power, your more in the region of 100-105! My 2003 VTS is more in the region of 120 with decat saxsport, 4-2-1 and full raceland enclosed green cotton filter! New, the VTS mk2 was only running 117bhp. Mine has a full service history but i still need to account for 7 years use and the 54k its covered!

i would go for the s2 rallye box i have had 3 from ebay now for my car and 2 mates car they have all been fine. and all pretty cheap mine was only 50 quid as for the reverse been a swine to get in there a pretty easy solution for that. you need to drill through the selector and selector shaft on the top of the gear box then fit a bolt and a nyloc nut and the gear box becomes a lot more responsive with very little play in the gear stick.

agreed you have to consider the use of the car as its may decrease on power through its life time. However mine was RR'd at 71k and it had a manifold and cat back with green panel filter and made 126.6bhp so was over the moon, mine is serviced around every 4k

What would be the best oil to get as im going to service it next week
