I actually used industrial strength velcro front and rear to hold my plate on, Means I can also take it off when I need to clean the car properly.
Best way for taking them off? Depends how they are on already! If its sticky pads, pull off, clean up the sticky pad with WD40 and a stanley blade?

usually number plates are screwed on. So unscrew them. If they are taped on, pull them off
Putting them back on is up to you, you can either screw them back on if they are screwed in. Or if not screwed in already you can either drill holes, or use strong doublesided sticky tape/velcro
