Is it worth buying?

right my mate is selling his w plate saxo vts for £400 he cant afford to repair the damage the problems:
    needs new discs and pads
possibly a power steering pump (he says his power steering is just not working what other problems could it be?)
may need some welding underneath the skirts (is this common?)
    needs a gear linkage bar
and the back box needs fitting correctly
tax runs out end of november and m.o.t runs out end of january

i know there is quite alot of work, are the parts hard to come by?
would you go for it because its a cheap car? or would you stay away because of the power steering pump and gear linkages because they sound expenisve any help appreciated thanks

    i personally wouldn't buy it

Gear linkages are cheap to fix.. Power steering pump isn't hard either to be honest.

Discs are pads are again, not overly expensive and easy to fit. Its the welding I'd look at?

Apart from that, if the rest of the car is good nick its worth it? You'd make that back by splitting it if you couldn't make the car work?

i am thinking about it i thought i would ask the people on here with experience with saxo's i have found out the garage he has taken it to who told him u may need the welding so i am going to ring tonight to see if its as serious as it sounds, i will upload pics tonight when i get home its a pretty decent looking car just a run about and the price is right, i would probablys have around £500 for repairs so maybe ok thanks for help appreciate it

why not just spend £900 on a decent saxo? i got a x reg 1.4 furio for £850 and only had to clean the icv, and gave it a full service

When he can buy a VTS for £400?

To repair that would cost no more than £200... So £600? For a W reg VTS? not bad in my opinion?

lol plymouth to durham thats an awesome road trip

only serious problem about all that is the welding tbh

ive changed some of that myself and its not too hard at all really

    power steering pump - £50
    discs & pads all round - £65

and backbox is only held on by one clamp and 2 rubbers so cant be that hard a fix

well the power steering pump is a very common problem for many saxo owners. would be a small chance its something to do with wiring. get 100 posts on here i think, and you can view the for sale section. always people breaking cars and its generally much cheaper than ebay, where i got my pump for £50 and its still strong after 2 years lol
im sure you can pick up cheaper gear linkages from here or a scrapyard aswell.

i think it would probably cost less than £800 if you were going to get a garage to source everything brand new and fit everything.
