Important! : A few probs :(

    Hi all i just got a another 2001 vtr a found a few probs with it like the battery light is on it flickers then stays on. and when i put it in 1st gear and 2nd gear it grinds and crunches. can anybody shed some light on these please?

    Battery light: When the car is switched off measure battery voltage should be about 12-14v then measure it when started should read 14+v maybe slightly less. If the battery is 12 or less when not switched on then change the battery. If less than 14 when running then alternator but best to change both.

    Crunching: Probably the syncro mesh or broken gear teeth etc so may need a new box before long. Is there any whining or is it hard to change into other gears?

    no there is not any whining it just crunches really hard into 1st and 2nd.

    Most probably the syncro mesh between 1st and 2nd then so you will most probably need a new box before long. Before going that drastic though have a quick check of the gear linkages for play if there is try changing them 1st.

    Ok thanks mate ill check that in the morning as its a bit dark now.
    yeah iv been told its most probably the syncro mesh so ill need a new one.
