Spray paint gun ect..

Im looking at getting a spray paint gun, what else would i need and what would you recommend..

ive got a 1.5 hp abac compressor with a draper gun set and tyre inflator. works ok for me. the compressor im selling at the moment if your interested £90

you can pick up a gun set for as little as £20 form castle hardware. ebay also have many cheap sets too for around the same price.

As for thinners etc.. i went into jawells (look em up online) and the bloke said 50/50 paint/thinners. not sure if this is correct though. im sure many other people use what ever they feel best with.

anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong

think that gun would do the job mate to be honest. i do prefer gravity feed guns to the suction feed ones.

compressors - i think anything over 1.5hp should be ok for spraying. mine is now on ebay for £85 take a look. ABAC 1.5HP air compressor.

thinners/dillutant wise depends on your application you might spray slow but far away from the car or the oposite id say add 10 percent thinners of the amount of paint you have. what paint are you planning on using?

don't buy a cheap gun mate get something in the devilbiss range or the sata as parts are easy to get parts for them and they help a lot with spraying. As for compressors get a oil free one with a storage tank of at least 20l and above 5 bhp. You will also need gun wash thinners and a bowl to wash your gun out in and a chemical resistant brush for cleaning. a good box of chemical latex gloves. any questions mate please ask as i been pro painting for the last 9 years now mate so pretty much done it all and seen it all.

right here we go *clears throat* lol

the spray gun- for a top finish use a top spray gun something like a devilbis. sealy hvlp guns are suppose to be good.

compressor- you'll want something with atleast 150ltr tank and 3bhp motor to keep up with the constant drain of air taken up by the gun.

paint- depends what you are using:
2K paint is mixed 2:1: 10-20%
celleouse is a 50/50 mix for the firs few coats then less and less paint.
synthetic- there are two way you can spray this.
1. 50/50 mix of paint and thinners.
2. hot sprayed. basicall use a deep fat fryer with water and set the water to boil with the paint can inside, once it boils poor the paint into the paint pot of the spray gun and spray. only problem is you have to be quick as t will sart to cool

OH i almost forgot if sprayng 2K pain you WILL need an AIR FED MASK the stuff posionous.

this is under the asumption you'll be doing alot of spraying in one go.

the set up we use is
1x 200 ltr 3bhp compressor for the air fed mask
1x 50 ltr compressor for the spray gun (still 3bhp motor i think)
1x devilbis spray gun (not hvlp)
1x air fed mask
1x set of spryang overalls
an airline filter
assorted mixing pots and sticks.

We use the devilbliss gun at work and never had any problems with it, shud last ages if looked after properly, and as said before you can get a hold of the parts quite easily wich is a bonus

you will also need an airline pressure regulater to maintain a constant pressure for the gun,every gun has its own recomended working pressure. i.e 35-45psi. there prety cheap and just bolt to the wall it has a guage on it and you just adjust this till you get the pressure your gun needs.
