Saxo 1.1 Timing belt woes

  1. #1
Hello all, I have looked through the previous posts to see if my question has been asked before. Its a strange one, does anyone know how many teeth a 2000 1.1 Saxo has on the timing belt? It has a SOHC engine. The one I took off had 104 but the replacement bought from Euro Car Parts has 100. The box that the replacement belt came in says that it is for a 2000 1.1 made by Continental Contitech.
I would be most gratefull if some one knows the answer. We live in Rural Wales and my daughter relies on her car as there is no public transport. I am only doing the job myself as the robbing Bast**ds, my nearest Citreon garage wanted £650 to do the job.
    Many thanks.

I checked the Euro Car Parts website to make sure that I had bought the correct belt. When I put in car details I get the choice of two belts. One cheap one with 104 teeth and a dearer one with 100 teeth, this is the one I bought thinking it would be better quality. How can one engine have two different length belts?

Whatever you took off the car put the same back on you get different belt lengths because something may have been added that a previous 1 hadnt got.

Not too sure why there's two belt lengths.

If the belt you removed has 104 teeth, then I'd say the 100 tooth is no good.

Thanks, I will exchange belt for cheaper one.

After fitting the new belt, I'd turn the engine over by hand a few times, then lock the crank at the flywheel locking hole again. If the cam pulley locking hole lines up as before, you should be good to go. If it's out by a few teeth, then it could be the belt is the wrong length.

If the one you removed was 104 teeth, then a replacement with 104 should be spot on though.
