Rocker Cover Leak

Whatever I do I cannot get the rocker to seal properly. I bought a vtr to replace my furio, the vtr had a rusted cover and my furio had a properly sprayed rocker so I wanted to swap them over.

Pushed the seal on before fitting to make sure it was tight, did everything up started it there was a little leak taken it off cleaned it moved the seal, refitted etc.. still leaks. Whilst getting frustrated I went and got a new rocker gasket, fitted that, ran the engine... leak.

Ok then - instant gasket! Took it off, cleaned it, put some instant gasket in the rubber gasket seal fitted that, waited 15 minutes. Put more instant gasket on the engine block where the rocker fits to.. Cleaned it all up, got rid of the excess where it leaked cleaned it all up. Ran it, yay fixed!!

So I thought? First trip this morning, opened the bonnet to have a look expecting to see a nice shiney clean bay and oil is still dripping from the bottom right hand corner. Two layers of instant gasket, a rubber gasket and STILL it leaks. Any ideas? I'm at a loose end here..

The rocker itself was fitted fine on my furio, no leaks etc..

are the bolts all tightening ok? could be a stripped thread causing it to shake loose on that corner maybe?

Also, make sure you smear oil over the gasket before you put it on, otherwise it won't seal very well.

The threads are fine, it is only the bottom right corner that is giving me the grief! @jackh - I did that, as above it's only that bottom right corner

That's really odd... mine leaked a bit when it was slightly corroded around the bottom?

you probably have already done this but make sure both contact surfaces that the gasket sitts against are clean and smooth otherwise it wont seal.

So all the threads are ok and it is sitting level?

make sure thr rockercover doesnt have any sharp edges in that corner because i could be cutting the rubber gasket

As far as i'm aware tring! I've tried two gaskets now and still no luck. It's doing my head in, I can't put it on the drive because I don't want oil everywhere! Admittedly it is only a tiny bit now but it shouldn't be leaking at all..

take the rocker cover off the car and remove the rubber gasket and put on a flat surface and see if it rocks when i got my car it had a warped rocker cover and leaked from the right corner. just a idea there only 25 quid from citroen.

Have you taken the cover off and pinpointed the leak mate?

I would replace the cover to be honest, i see many that have warped.

You could always put silicone round the gasket then screw it down.My local garage reckons that many of the covers he removes need a bit of liquid gasket to help them seal.
