Cambelt query

  1. #1
    Hello,

I am going to look at a west coast tomorrow the owner is unsure if it has had a cambelt change, it has done 96,000 miles and is 11 years old.

Would it be right to assume that if the cambelt hadn't been changed it would have already gone at this age?

    Cheers

    Holly

no that'd be a dangerous assumption that is a false economy, for the price of a cam belt change done, possibly water pump and tensioner at the same time, it costs peanuts compared to sitting at the side of the M25 with your head in your hands waiting for the AA and a big repair bill. Get it sorted!

whats common price for one of these to be fitted inc parts then? the car itself is cheap and i only need it till feb until my insurance runs out and i can get a new car

we charge 100 pounds to replace belt and tensioner, don't know about other garages, its worth having done for peace of mind!

I charge £170, thats Cambelt, waterpump, tensioner and fresh coolant. You'll get a receipt for your service history, therefore when it comes to selling the car you'll get more

try pm'ing deks36 on here, if he can't do it he'll be able to recommend someone, he's in Herne Bay. Shame i'm getting married this weekend, Mandys family are all from Canterbury and Gillingham, she could have visited and i'd have had an excuse to dodge the monster-in-law lol
