dangers when mapping

    question is really.
what sort of dangers should i be worried about.
when mapping a brand new built engine.
    that hasnt been run in.
would it need a gentle mapping session then a second one after running in.
or will mapping be ok as its initial run in period???

mine was mapped on 50miles by dave walker.

The mapping company will probably run the car on the dyno for a few miles on a base map to make sure theres no major fitment issues.

i have the same issue, what ecu are you using mate? can you not run it in yourself on the standard ecu before fitting up all the s/charger gear, thats what im gonna do, should be ok if you cant as the majority of ppl map new engines without fault, long as you explain this to whoever is mapping it, should be run in by the time the mapping is done, but still take it easy for a few hundred mile

generally if its a fresh engine you map it on the safe side and run it in for 500 or so miles. Put some fresh oil in then do the proper mapping and WOT etc

running the pred m8, problem is its mapped for 708s with different timing.
timing is back to standard now till mapping begins. dont fancy the hassle of running it standard with the low comps either. will be nails lol

thats wat i was thinking. get a safe map done. so can mot and tax it. run it in for a few hundred miles. iron out any issues then get it final mapped.

A good company will do alittle running and light running check everything oil leaks and sensor reading start tweaking few parts of a map to get a good fuelling as such. Maybe if it has no miles they will get a map on so you can run it a bit more before going back for a full map.

But they should be able to get a good few miles on the dyno may take time which cost money, but should be ok, they should keep there eye on it and all the sensor making sure the fueling ok, I had 500 miles on my engine when I took to NMS, and they ran it got the fuelling right for the can timing it was at then ran it abit to check it, then power runs then change timing and fueling power run til it was right then the final map for all different throttle position.

Whoever is mapping it will set a rough base map to run engine in for abit on the dyno to check everything first before final mapping begins read this http://www.atspeedracing.co.uk/engin...ing-essex.html
