Random dial outages.

    Hi guys.

Having a problem with my dials and needles on my Saxo. They'll all randomly die out and power back up. Sometimes it'll freeze and the backlight will go out - then a little knock of the dash powers it back up again.
It's only the dials that are affected. Headlights, indicators, etc still work as normal.

I'm guessing it's something to do with the connections behind the dials? Not sure though, any ideas on what it is and how to fix?

Also, I'm getting annoying random ticking and buzzing from the fusebox when the indicators aren't on. Pretty sure it's unrelated as it's only just happened in the past week or so.

    Cheers, d00ds.

Just sounds like a bad connection, take the dials out mate and make sure they are clicked in properly at the back.

    Take steering surround off.
    Battery off.
    Airbag out.
    Wheel off.
    Airbag ring out.
Indicators / Wiper stalk move down.
    Undo dial surround.
    Unclip dials.

    Plug back in and reverse!

I'll give that a go mate, thanks.
Any idea what's with the ticking & buzzing from the fusebox? (see above).

Sorry to revive an old topic but i have just come up with the same issue except that mine wont come back on again! I managed to disconnect the 2 connections at the back, checked it with a peugeot 206 dash though only the yellow one fitted in the socet of the peugeot one so couldnt fully test it (and its a different layout). There were 2 connections, a black one and a yellow one - is one for power and the other one for data input?

The lights at the bottom all come on and im pretty sure that the temp needle goes up after a while, the petrol says my tank is half full though im now not sure if its telling me lies or not. The Speedo and the Rev counter does not work at all (since i have had the car the rev counter has never worked though).

Now the connections at the back of the dials, where do they go? Might this be a fuse issue? is there something else which might be causing this issue apart from the dash which i can properly test?

Its a saxo furio btw, thanks in advance

Ive seen the connectors poorly soldered to the board before. Take the clocks out and turn the ignition on then wiggle the connector on the board. See if it trips out.

As well as what`s already been mentioned an alternator can cause dash problem`s mine did it before packing up totally,as well as the sound from the fusebox.

Ah kk, thanks guys - is there a way which i can check my alternator or is it a case of send it to the garage and see what they say? Im about to bid on some replacement dials since they seem fairly cheap online (already taken the dials out and had a look and everything seemed ok to me) just to cover my bases really! if it makes no difference then i can always sell them off again afterwards
