Rev counter from alternator

    This is driving me mad, there must be a way to fit a rev counter to my 1.5 D with no ecu. Am I correct in saying the best/only way to do this is to get the signal from the W terminal on the alternator to a standard 106/saxo Diesel rev counter and pos from ignition and ground from wherever. Will this work??

    Some guys were talking about it on 106owners but no one came to a conclusion. Someone said it needed a resistor inline with the tachometer? Any ideas?
