reverse gone :(

   Right i don't no how to explain this properly but i'l explain best i can.
   I tried to put car in to reverse a couple of days ago and went in perfect as let foot off the clutch it then decided to just make crunching noise asif was'nt in gear correctly but completly in gear just sounds asif its not catchin correctly and is just crunching but every other gear goes in to gear fine an drive no noises crucnches etc could anybody give some advice what this could be
   I so far been told could be something todo with the reverse gear not connecting into the shafts correctly or something like that but then been told its a new gearbox job just would like another opinion please thank you
   
   the car is a citroen saxo vtr 1.6 8 valve 99 plate

   you sure you're putting it in far enough? mine does this when its not quite in reverse. feels asif it's gone in, let the foot of then starts making te noise you describe, just make sure its in far enough.

   this is common with saxos, mine does it too sometimes it wont go in unless i let the car roll forward a lil bit.
   
   mine makes more or a whirring noise then a crunching when not engaged properly though
