Important! : Group Buy - Heated Windscreens - Gauging Interest

  1. #1
This thread is to see if anyone is interested in a heated windscreen please register your interest here. I'm going to contact a few companies today regarding these and hopefully get back with a few prices.

    Benefits of a heated windscreen
One benefit would be it will be easier to demist the windscreen in the morning. My own reason for needing one is i've completely removed my heater matrix. I stripped the interior out as far as i could go, and then realised how large the heater matrix is. You would be suprised how much it weighs, all the piping to air vents, the fan, the heater itself, the centre heater matrix that controls the direction of the air flow and how hot or cold it is. I really wish i weighed it upon removal.

    Price
As a ball park figure the cheapest i've found for these is £185+VAT. Thats without a group buy discount.
I am hoping i can get some discount on that, obviously i can't say how much discount until i know how many people are interested and until a few companies get back to me.

    VAT
Also its worth noteing that VAT goes upto 20% after new year so i'm hoping to have this group buy all done and dusted before then. I understand its a financially stressful time of the year for some people, please only register your interest if you can geniunely afford one.

    Payment
I'm hoping the company will accept payments directly to them to save any hassle. The last thing i want to do is pesture people and collect the money off everyone on here then pay for them all myself.
The easiest and safest way to do this group buy is going to be we all commit to buy, then we all send payment at the same time with our names and addresses.

I'm hoping for 5 Members minimum, 10 would be great.

    Other Car Clubs
Members from other forums are welcome. If anyone is a member on any other car clubs and you think they may be interested in this group buy please direct them towards this thread. The more people we get the more discount we'll get.

Note to moderators, i've contacted Simo about this group buy and he's advised me to gauge interest in the Styling and Interior section of the forum.

It isn't something i have done before but from googling it seems very easy. I know someone who would wire it up for me a few quid if i get stuck. But as i said it looks very easy from googleing.

The windscreen is split into two halfs, passenger and driver.
Its just a couple simple connections battery > switch on dashboard > relay > earth.
I'm sure the company will provide instructions if any of us are struggling.

I believe there is a couple people on the forums that have these that could also advise us, and when i wire mine up i don't mind taking a few pictures and making a little guide.

I'd love however I'll be short of moony for a few months yet with tax and insurance etc

Would be looking at march/April unfortunately (bit late in the year to need a heated screen lol)

Paul just to point out the VAT increase won't make any real different to the price.... 2.5% of £200 is a fiver extra!

Quick calculation tells me the price above (£185 + VAT) works out at £217.38 with 17.5% VAT and £222 with 20% VAT

Could you PM me through any details of the company you've found Paul, will try another group but/go direct later next year as I can't see this one being delayed all winter for me...

So you can see where you are going in the winter when its frosted up or misty. Some of these lads dont have any heaters, or for that matter not much interior lol

I'm just waiting on a confirmation email then i'll pm you discussing prices.

2.5% doesn't seem much as you calculated, but if we get ten people the five pounds soon becomes fifty pounds.

I spent half a hour after work today demisting my windscreen (no heaters). So as soon as i get 5 people interested i'm dropping the companies another email seeing what is the best price they can do for 5 people.

At £217 i feel its still pretty much a bargin tbh.

    As above.

Its more for the track saxos who have completely removed everything in their interior (not just the back seats )

Also even if you have heaters in the car and its standard, a heated windscreen will definately come in handy over the next 6 months of sleet and snow!
