Re-Tapping Thread on a Wheel Hub

  1. #1
Age ago, I had some tyres fitted to my saxo when I went for my MOT, as the car had stood for years so the tyres were knackered. When they put these back on, they must have cross threaded one of the bolts as it wasn't like that before this and I only found out they'd done it after I went to have my alloys fitted onto the car. Now I've been driving round with three bolts in my alloy waiting for the time to come to do it.

I've now got my own tap and die set, and do realise I might have to go and buy another piece for it to fit. I also have a spare strut in my garage with another wheel hub on it, so in desperate need, I can just change them over, but I've heard it takes long and its more hassle.

I was wondering if anyone knows the precise piece that I need for re-tapping the thread in the wheel hub. I know it's 1.25, but the piece I have isn't big enough, as in it's smaller in width than my bolt. If anyone knows the piece I need and the size that would be helpful.

    Thanks,

Not too sure on that one atm, PPC featured how to do that a while ago. I can scan and email it if ya want?

    yep m12 x 1.25 pitch

unless you have a heavy duty set i doubt the tap holder will go big enough to fit the tap in
make sure its in straightand work the thread, go in a couple of turns then back it out, then in a few more then back it out until it goes all the way in

Cool. Thanks for the replies. Ordered the one I need and can sort this out soon. Something that plays on my mind when driving the car, as it's the front driver's. So I can get this sorted.
