VTR mk1 wont start

Hi, would appreciate some help on this problem.

    Basically,

I've had my VTR for about a month or 2 and havent had any problems at all. But yesterday i started my car and as soon as i let go of the key it cut out, so when i started it again i had to rev the engine to keep it going. When i got to work as soon as i let go of the accelerator it cut out once again and hasnt started since.

Im thinking its a flat battery, but dont really know alot about cars so asking here for a bit help.

When i put the key and turn it 1 click, the battery light comes on, 2 clicks and the rest of the lights come on, then the "key" light (guessing immob light?) goes out and then when i turn the key to start the engine, nothing happens(although on 2 occasions it tried to start but cut out after a second of trying to kick into life), ALL lights on dash cut out and the clock even resets.

    Any ideas?

By the way this is my first post, and gutted it had to be a problem post haha!

    Cheers

    DJ

dosen't sound like the battery or immobiliser to me if theres a problem with the immobiliser the light on the dash flashes and wont start.

sounds like an electrical fault of somesort, im sure someone on here will know

^ +1 for the above, my alternator went and exactly the same thing was happening, had to balance the rev's on every time i pulled to a stop

    New alternator FTW!

Someone at work also said the alternator, but im going to replace the battery first and see if that works as my dad has a new battery in his xsarra picasso which is the same as a saxo battery (code 063) if not then ill look at replacing the alternator, ive heard they can be costly??

    cheers

Probably less than the cost of a decent battery!

Try battery first, probably killed off by the temperature drop. If battery light stays on with engine runnkng then replace alternator. Easy job and cheap to buy 2nd hand alty from scrappers.

wouldnt trust a secondhand battery as far as i could throw it! for the sake of £60.00 its best to get a new one unless you like takeing risks of your car not starting and leaving you in the sxxt
