Changing clutch

  1. #1
My thrust bearing has gone on my saxo vtr im looking to change the clutch but i dont have much money at the moment.
    My car is w reg.

Im able to change the clutch myself but i have a few questions.

Are all saxo vtr clutches from 96-04 the same?
Is There a guide anywhere to make things easier?
Would this clutch be alrite http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-Saxo-P...item5adc764efa or is it best to stay away from cheap ones?

    Thanks

Im pretty sure the only difference is the clutch diameter (180mm for 1.0 1.1, 1.4 - 200mm for 1.6 engines).

That one will be ok, but you might want to get a cheap; Transmech Clutch Kit from Euro Car Parts so you know its new and not re-manufactured one?

If youve not done one before then your best bet would be to get a Haynes.

Special tools you may not have are a torque wrench and some kind of clutch alignment tool.

Its quite simple to do to be honest, the hardest part i find with any clutch is getting the gearbox back on.

Just remember where you have taken everything off so you can put it all back together, take your time and you will be fine with it buddy

I did mine for the first time this year and as long as you follow the haynes manual its not too bad.Just remember to attatch all sensor plugs afterwards.
You will need a torx socket for the clutch pressure plate bolts otherwise just take your time and work methodically and it will be ok.I took the clutch off the first day and put it all back the next day. That way youarent rushed and get it right.
To centre my clutch plate i used a socket extension bar with tight fit socket attatched and viewed from under the car to centralise.Make sure this is right or the box wont go back on! Best to disconnect the drivers side drive shaft central bearing fixing as i tried to avoid this but dodnt work!
get the car up a decent height helps too.
carefull putting the box on to not let the release bearing move out of place as well.
    good luck

As above you can centralise the friction plate for first time fitment of the box using a home made tool. iirc 10mm allen key bolts hold the gearbox on. A trolley jack is useful for refitting box. I had to have the engine at an angle to get the gearbox off the block because it kept hitting the chassis where the bottom arms bolt onto. Remember you will need gearbox oil and be careful with the driveshaft oil seals.

just proved you know fuck all there mate.

never buy a cheap clutch does no 1 listen if you buy cheap you buy twice if you cant afford one then don't do it. save up for a valeo or a L.U.K clutch kit then you know it can take all the shit you can throw at it and wont have to pay for a new clutch in 2 weeks time.

Ermm how many of these clutch's have you fitted then buddy? Yeahhh none - what I thought! Im guessing your one of the kids that likes paying £2000+ on insurance as well - "COS ITS IN UR OWN NAME!" and thinks its good value for money!

Ive fitted loads of these kits for people on a tight budget - one relevant one comes to mind in my mates VTR at 46k, its still running like new at 112k!

    306 2.0 HDI fitted 80k ago..

    106 Quicksilver 60 odd k ago.

    If you read what the OP put at the beginning;
