tick over problems

    my wifes s plate vtr starts ok and drives ok, only problem is to start with on tick over rev counter drops intermitantly rises high and settles to normal as if it has a quick surge on auto choke . sudden fuel starvation then increase, then tick over is normal. any ideas.????? this problem has now happening while driving now. help????

    idle control valve remove it clean it with brake cleaner re-fit then try that if it still the same replace and all will be fine.
