Car cutting out.

  1. #1
Hopefully someone will have an idea as to what's going on with this problem. Basically when you first start the car up, it idles as normal (at around 1000rpm), and when the car gets warmer, it gradually comes down to 750/800rpm. But as soon as you pull away, and I change gear the revs drop off completely and the car cuts out virtually stalling. Now i start the car back up, and if i don't keep the revs above 1000rpm, the car will cut out again. So I need to keep my foot on the throttle in order to keep the car running. I had to have a new battery friday, and i thought that this may have solved it, but it hasn't. I hope someone on here will be able to help, anything would be appreciated! Thanks.

Sounds like the MAP sensor to me, possible the ICV.

Have a search for them two on here.

Anyone else have any ideas? It didn't turn out to be the map sensor?

    TPS sensor?

I've had a few searches and can't seem to find where it's located, without looking at the throttle body would it be behind it?

Its right next the ICV, just a little harder to get to.

I've just started the car up and all is running fine, then i then removed the map sensor and the revs dropped from 1k to 750 rpm, sounded as if it was struggling, so i connected it back up and it seemed okay again. I've revved it hard and it revs fine and then idles as it should. Just need to take it out for a drive and i shall get someone to video whats going on so its easier to see. Ive just also disconnected the battery in order to reset the ECU and then i will take it for a 12mile/10minute drive. Any other ideas?

    Is the car cammed?

Nope, that would have been the next mod having this not happened.

Seems like TPS or MAP sensor to me.
  12. #12
I'm about to go try find the TPS, what should happen if i remove it?
  13. #13
    I wouldn't simply remove it.

Theres a technique to fitting a new one, as it needs to know when the throttle is fully open, and when the throttle is closed. I can't remember exactly how its done you'll have to have a search.

Or hopefully someone abit more clued up than me will post.

i no with the TPS on my Fiesta you have to mount it at the right angle, otherwise if set wrong the revs would either be too low or too high at idle =/
  15. #15
That's what i think mine is wrong, it's not revving correctly causing it to cut out

Had it on a diagnostics machine today and it won't let me test the throttle position, this could be because of the TPS being broken maybe? Also my engine management light is on and its coming up as catalytic malfunction or something along those lines, but thats been cleared now, although this wont fix the problem i will see how it drives tomorrow. Still cutting out though, how much would a replacement TPS sensor cost?

Just to let anyone else know that is having the same problem, or for future reference, it turned out to be a faulty temp sensor. Thanks for your help guys!
